5 Minute Morning Flow: to Ground and Clear Your Mind
If you only have five minutes in the morning, this simple yoga flow is a beautiful way to set the tone for your day. Moving slowly through a few intentional hip-opening postures can help release stored tension, create space in the body, and leave you feeling grounded and clear before you step into whatever the day holds.
The hips are often described as an emotional storage unit, a place where we hold on to stress, unprocessed feelings, and physical tightness. Taking time to tend to this area not only supports mobility but can also bring a sense of emotional release and balance. For women, hip-opening practices can be particularly supportive during the follicular or ovulatory phases of the menstrual cycle, when we naturally feel more energetic and open to dynamic movement.
This five-minute sequence focuses on poses such as low lunges, Twisted Monkey, and Malasana, with the option to add in some free-flowing movement if your body is craving it. Closing with a short round of Nadi Shodhana, or alternate nostril breathing, helps restore balance to the nervous system and leaves you calm, centered, and ready to begin the day.
Sit tall, close your eyes, focus on the breath. Again bring one hand to heart, one to belly to seal your practice and set an intention for the day.
