Allie's Guide to LA

Allie's Guide to LA

I went to LA for the first time last month for our HARA x FUDE event. I was so excited to explore a new place, and these are the four spots that stayed with me.

SPENCER’S

I spent my birthday in LA and treated myself to a prenatal facial here. The space was so design focused, set inside a restored 1920s home, and that alone added to the whole experience. I left feeling fresh and chic at the same time.

Tea at Shiloh

I had wanted to visit after seeing it online for years, and it exceeded every expectation. They made me a special pregnancy tea blend, and there were tarot decks out for anyone who wanted to pull a card. I always love pulling cards for the year ahead on my birthday, so this felt like it was made for me. It began in the Arts District in 2022, modelled loosely after the owner's own bedroom, and was built with no fixed idea of what guests should expect, just tea, low seating and an evening that unfolds however it wants to.

Schindler House

I have always had a love for architecture and design, so this was a no brainer. Built in 1922 by the Austrian émigré architect Rudolph Schindler as a home and studio for himself, his wife and another couple, it was designed as an experiment in communal living, with no conventional living room or bedrooms in the way a house was expected to have them at the time. Sliding glass doors, concrete tilt slab walls and redwood ceilings blur where inside ends and outside begins, and in the years after it was built the house became something of a gathering place for the era's artists and thinkers.

Community Goods

Their Einspänner matcha lives rent free in my mind. It was so good that the matcha and breakfast sliders became part of my morning routine for the whole trip.
