Three days off the grid. It seems like a small amount of time, but it was enough to remind me of the things I had forgotten. In those few days, I found a slower rhythm. The lessons were simple, but they have stayed with me.

1. Simplicity is Enough
Without the pull of technology, life becomes focused on what is needed. Food to eat, water to drink, and shelter to rest. There’s a kind of quiet that comes when you let go of the extras. The essentials are enough. In that simplicity, I found space to breathe, to notice the small things, and to feel content in the stillness.

2. Nature Has a Rhythm
Living off the grid, I noticed the things I usually miss. The way the day moves, from the cool of morning to the warmth of the afternoon, and the quiet of the night. Nature keeps its own time, and I began to move with it. Without schedules, I could see the sky shift, hear the leaves, and feel a part of the mother earth’s way. It reminded me of our connection to the land.

3. Community is Shared Work
I wasn’t alone in this experience. I shared it with friends, and that made all the difference. Together, we cooked, gathered wood, and sat in the quiet of the evening. Without distractions, we had time to talk, to listen, to be present with each other. I realised that community is not just about being together, but about sharing the work, the food, and the silence.

Three days was all it took to return home ot myself, to mother earth. A gentle reminder that these truths are always there, waiting for us to notice.

We spend 1-3 months off grid every year and I can say, that it only gets better the longer you go. The gentleness of release from the larger world is more soul-satisfying than anything else I’ve tried. My life goal is to get there year long, permanently.
